Talk to the course before booking
Explain that your child is new. Ask about shorter tees, nine-hole options, quiet times and any age or supervision rules. Tell them you want to keep pace and make the visit enjoyable for everyone.
Agree on a flexible plan
Ask the course whether it is acceptable to move forward, pick up a ball or play fewer holes during a casual round. A beginner does not need to spend every hole struggling from a distance that is too long. Formal events have their own rules, which must be checked separately.
Pack for the visit you are taking
Bring water, weather-appropriate clothing and what the facility requires. Check rental availability in advance if you are not bringing clubs. Avoid turning the first outing into a shopping project.
Keep the conversation bigger than the score
Notice a good decision, a kind gesture or a funny moment. At the end, ask whether your child wants to go again. That answer may tell you more than a scorecard.
